Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by William Dobell achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in Melbourne in November 2009. In the Important Australian Art auction, the work Australian Study For Portrait Professor L. F. Giblin sold for AUD 18,600.00 (€ 11,341.86) - well above the upper estimate of AUD 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Dobell achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Australian Opera House, Sydney Harbour in August 2007 with an auction result of AUD 816,000.00 (€ 487,948.98).
