In October 2015 Phillips in New York held the auction Photographs, which included the work John Coltrane at the Guggenheim, New York City by William Claxton. The »bidding war« ended at USD 6,250.00 (€ 5,660.21), 25% above the upper estimate. Other works by William Claxton have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of GBP 7,500.00 (€ 9,239.24) in November 2012 for the work Steve McQueen in his Jaguar XK55, Hollywood.
