Auction result misses estimated price range
In November 2008 a collector was able to acquire the work Penkill Castle, Ayrshire by William Bell Scott for GBP 1,063.00 (€ 1,285.25). This price was achieved in the auction A GREAT BRITISH COLLECTION: The pictures collected by Sir David and Lady Scott, sold to benefit the Finnis Scott Foundation at Sothebys in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Bell Scott achieve.
