Auction result well in line with expectations

In October 2008 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Art, which included the work A merchantman preparing to leave her anchorage amidst other shipping off Leith, with a panorama of Edinburgh beyond by William Adolphus Knell. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 7,000.00 – 9,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 7,500.00 (€ 9,559.81) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by William Adolphus Knell have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in May 2012 the work The East Indiaman Exeter making for the Ladrone Islands, China, 1805 was auctioned for GBP 11,250.00 (€ 14,017.01).
