Auction result well in line with expectations
The work HMS ‘Nemesis’ attacking Houchung Fort in the Canton River, 13 March 1841 (First Opium War) by William Adolphus Knell was sold in the China Trade Paintings: Selections from the Kelton Collection auction at Christies in London in November 2019. The price achieved of GBP 1,875.00 (€ 2,201.71) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00. Admittedly, works by William Adolphus Knell have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The East Indiaman Exeter making for the Ladrone Islands, China, 1805 in May 2012 with an auction result of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 14,017.01).

Die Arbeit HMS ‘Nemesis’ attacking Houchung Fort in the Canton River, 13 March 1841 (First Opium War) von William Adolphus Knell wurde im November 2019 in der Auktion China Trade Paintings: Selections from the Kelton Collection bei Christies in London versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 1.875,00 (€ 2.201,71) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 1.500,00 – 2.500,00 angegeben worden. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Adolphus Knell auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The East Indiaman Exeter making for the Ladrone Islands, China, 1805 im Mai 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 11.250,00 (€ 14.017,01).
