Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A steeple cup with upturned cover, a glass of wine, an orange and a knife on an Oriental rug on a draped marble ledge by Willem Kalf was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 80,000.00 – 120,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 76,375.00 (€ 82,053.07). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Willem Kalf achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Chafing Dish, Two Pilgrims' Canteens, A Silver-Gilt Ewer, A Plate And Other Tableware On A Partially Draped Table in May 2019 with an auction result of USD 2,775,000.00 (€ 2,489,012.47).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit A steeple cup with upturned cover, a glass of wine, an orange and a knife on an Oriental rug on a draped marble ledge von Willem Kalf im Januar 2001 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 80.000,00 – 120.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 76.375,00 (€ 82.053,07) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Willem Kalf erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A Chafing Dish, Two Pilgrims' Canteens, A Silver-Gilt Ewer, A Plate And Other Tableware On A Partially Draped Table im Mai 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 2.775.000,00 (€ 2.489.012,47).
