Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Still life with a Chinese ginger jar, a porcelain bowl, a glass roemer and other objects of vertu, with a half-peeled lemon, orange, and melon, all on a marble ledge draped with a Persian carpet by Willem Kalf was auctioned at Sothebys in London in December 2021. The price achieved of GBP 595,800.00 (€ 710,664.43) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 500,000.00 – 700,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Willem Kalf - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Chafing Dish, Two Pilgrims' Canteens, A Silver-Gilt Ewer, A Plate And Other Tableware On A Partially Draped Table, which sold at auction in May 2019 for USD 2,775,000.00 (€ 2,489,012.47).
