Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Wen Jia achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in September 2012. In the Fine Classical Chinese Paintings auction, the work Living Alone In A Thatched Hut sold for USD 134,500.00 (€ 104,620.41) - well above the upper estimate of USD 45,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Wen Jia achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Thatched Cottage In The Southern Village (Nancun Caotang Tu), After Wang Meng in March 2012 with an auction result of USD 5,122,500.00 (€ 3,841,682.92).
