Description
Vladimir Weisberg
1924-1985
STILL LIFE WITH MULTIPLE OBJECTS
signed in Cyrillic and dated '70' t.r.
oil on canvas
The present lot is a striking example of Weisberg's so-called 'white on white' style, the purist aesthetic which the artist developed over the course of the 1960s. Typical of his still lifes from the period, the elevated viewpoint accentuates the flatness of the composition and contributes to the deformation of geometrical objects, whose contours and volumes seem to dematerialise and dissolve.
oil on canvas
Canvas: 19 by 21 1/2 in., 48 by 54.5cm
Framed: 20 1/2 by 22 3/4 in., 52 by 58cm
Acquired by the present owner in the Soviet Union in the 1970s

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Still Life With Multiple Objects by Vladimir Weisberg was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2018. The price achieved of USD 23,750.00 (€ 20,958.35) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Vladimir Weisberg achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Reclining Nude in November 2012 with an auction result of GBP 229,250.00 (€ 282,412.74).
