Auction result well in line with expectations

The work A triptych entitled 'Foreigners from the Five Countries having a Banquet', a group of Westerners, each with a cartouche identifying their home country, seated at a dining table being attended by Chinese servants, with a view of shipping in the bay of Yoko by Utagawa Yoshikazu was sold in the JAPANESE ART AND DESIGN auction at Christies in London in June 2001. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,057.50 (€ 1,756.72) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Utagawa Yoshikazu have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Amerikashu no uchi Washintonfu no kei dohan no utsushi (One of the states in America: Copy of an engraving of Washington, D.C.) in March 2003 with an auction result of USD 10,755.00 (€ 9,866.97).
