Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work A hashira-e pillar print of a young fan-seller carrying boxes of fans on his shoulder and holding a fan in his hand, signed Toyohiro ga, very good impression and colour, small nicks in the paper on both vertical edges by Utagawa Toyohiro was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2001, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 1,500.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as hi Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Utagawa Toyohiro; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Standing beauty sold at auction in March 2009 with the realized price of USD 18,750.00 (€ 14,139.21).
