Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Bijin zu (Beauty) by Uemura Shoen was auctioned at Christies in New York in May 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 100,000.00 – 150,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 99,500.00 (€ 117,681.85). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Uemura Shoen - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Beauties of the twelve months, which sold at auction in March 2003 for USD 399,500.00 (€ 366,513.76).
