In March 2000 Christies in London held the auction British and Victorian Pictures, which included the work Passage of the Douro, Oporto Liberated, 1809 - a design for the Wellington shield by Thomas Stothard. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 805.00 (€ 1,338.75), 34% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Stothard achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Sylvia and the Outlaws: a Scene from Shakespeare's 'Two Gentlemen of Verona' in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 10,755.00 (€ 15,701.96).

Im März 2000 führte Christies in London die Auktion British and Victorian Pictures durch, in der auch die Arbeit Passage of the Douro, Oporto Liberated, 1809 - a design for the Wellington shield von Thomas Stothard zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 805,00 (€ 1.338,75) und damit 34% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Stothard erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Sylvia and the Outlaws: a Scene from Shakespeare's 'Two Gentlemen of Verona' im Februar 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 10.755,00 (€ 15.701,96).
