Auction result well in line with expectations
The work An illustration to Oliver Goldsmith's 'The Deserted Village': On the way to market by Thomas Stothard was sold in the British and Continental Watercolours auction at Christies in London in October 2006. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 400.00 – 600.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 420.00 (€ 627.52) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Stothard achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Sylvia and the Outlaws: a Scene from Shakespeare's 'Two Gentlemen of Verona' in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 10,755.00 (€ 15,701.96).

Die Arbeit An illustration to Oliver Goldsmith's 'The Deserted Village': On the way to market von Thomas Stothard wurde im Oktober 2006 in der Auktion British and Continental Watercolours bei Christies in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 400,00 – 600,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 420,00 (€ 627,52) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Stothard erzielen.
