Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Thomas Stothard could be acquired at Christies in London in July 2012 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master & Early British Drawings and Watercolours auction, the work Four panoramic seascapes (illustrated); Two landscapes with a castle on a hill top; View of the Humber from Barton; Four Yorkshire landscapes (illustrated); and Study of rocks changed hands for GBP 500.00 (€ 636.87) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,000.00 – 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Stothard achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Sylvia and the Outlaws: a Scene from Shakespeare's 'Two Gentlemen of Verona' in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 10,755.00 (€ 15,701.96).
In der Auktion Old Master & Early British Drawings and Watercolours wechselte die Arbeit Four panoramic seascapes (illustrated); Two landscapes with a castle on a hill top; View of the Humber from Barton; Four Yorkshire landscapes (illustrated); and Study of rocks für GBP 500,00 (€ 636,87) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 1.000,00 – 2.000,00.
