Auction result well in line with expectations
In December this year Christies in London held the auction Old Masters Part II: Paintings, Sculpture, Drawings and Watercolours, which included the work Recruiting soldiers at Brentford by Thomas Rowlandson. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,024.00 (€ 3,483.53) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Rowlandson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A gaming table at Devonshire House, London: Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, Harriet, Lady Duncannon, the Prince of Wales and others gambling in July 2017 with an auction result of GBP 87,500.00 (€ 97,636.56).
