Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Thomas Joshua Cooper achieved an unexpectedly high price at Phillips in London in March 2009. In the Saturday@Phillips auction, the work At the Meeting of the Two Seas - The Beginnings of the Baltic Grenen, Jutland, Denmark sold for GBP 938.00 (€ 1,011.49) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 400.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Joshua Cooper achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Unexpected Nightfall- The Mid North Atlantic Ocean, Porto Moniz, The Island of Madeira (Near the North-most point of the Island), Portugal in June 2008 with an auction result of GBP 8,125.00 (€ 10,270.27).
