Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2000 Christies in New York held the auction Important Old Master Paintings, which included the work Portrait of Mawdistly Best (d. 1795) of Chilston Park, Kent, as a boy, full-length, wearing a red dress with a white apron and holding a hat, his spaniel at his feet, with buildings beyond by Thomas Gibson. The price achieved of USD 17,625.00 (€ 18,894.73) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Gibson - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of the Hon. Mrs William Townshend, three-quarter-length, in black and red masquerade dress, holding a mask in her right hand, a classical arcade beyond, which sold at auction in June 2003 for GBP 33,460.00 (€ 48,083.84).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Mai 2000 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Important Old Master Paintings durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of Mawdistly Best (d. 1795) of Chilston Park, Kent, as a boy, full-length, wearing a red dress with a white apron and holding a hat, his spaniel at his feet, with buildings beyond von Thomas Gibson zur Versteigerung kam. Mrs William Townshend, three-quarter-length, in black and red masquerade dress, holding a mask in her right hand, a classical arcade beyond beobachtet, die im Juni 2003 für GBP 33.460,00 (€ 48.083,84) versteigert wurde.
