In July 2013 Christies in London held the auction La Rosa di Montevecchia: An Italian Villa, which included the work Portrait of Queen Anne (1665-1714), seated three-quarter-length, in state robes, holding an orb by Thomas Gibson. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,375.00 (€ 2,713.85), 32% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Gibson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of the Hon. Mrs William Townshend, three-quarter-length, in black and red masquerade dress, holding a mask in her right hand, a classical arcade beyond in June 2003 with an auction result of GBP 33,460.00 (€ 48,083.84).

Oberer Schätzpreis um 32 % übertroffen

Im Juli 2013 führte Christies in London die Auktion La Rosa di Montevecchia: An Italian Villa durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of Queen Anne (1665-1714), seated three-quarter-length, in state robes, holding an orb von Thomas Gibson zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 2.375,00 (€ 2.713,85) und damit 32% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Gibson erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of the Hon. Mrs William Townshend, three-quarter-length, in black and red masquerade dress, holding a mask in her right hand, a classical arcade beyond im Juni 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 33.460,00 (€ 48.083,84).
