In June 2009 Christies in London held the auction Centuries of Style: Silver, European Ceramics, Portrait Miniatures and Gold Boxes, which included the work A young lady, in satin open gown fastened with a gem-set brooch, ruffled shift, satin mantle, long curling hair by Thomas Forster. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,125.00 (€ 2,493.62), 42% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Forster achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of A Gentleman in December 2019 with an auction result of GBP 65,000.00 (€ 76,822.39).
