Auction result well in line with expectations
The work View Near Catskill by Thomas Cole was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2024. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 500,000.00 – 700,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 504,000.00 (€ 440,482.43) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Cole - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Catskill Mountain House, which sold at auction in December 2003 for USD 1,463,500.00 (€ 1,161,784.55).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit View Near Catskill von Thomas Cole kam im Januar 2024 bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 500.000,00 – 700.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 504.000,00 (€ 440.482,43) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Thomas Cole mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Catskill Mountain House beobachtet, die im Dezember 2003 für USD 1.463.500,00 (€ 1.161.784,55) versteigert wurde.
