In May 2001 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL WATERCOLOURS AND DRAWINGS, which included the work Highland figures on a track in a mountainous landscape by Thomas Charles Leeson Rowbotham. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 646.25 (€ 1,083.45), 29% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Charles Leeson Rowbotham achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Veduta di Benares, 1872 in November 2002 with an auction result of EUR 17,360.00.
