This work of art by Thomas Buttersworth could be acquired at Christies in New York in April 2012 for an unexpectedly low price. In the 19th Century European Paintings auction, the work Loss of H.M.S.'s Blenheim and Java in a Hurricane off Rodriguez; the Brig Harrier Escaping, February 1807 changed hands for USD 7,500.00 (€ 5,669.36) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Buttersworth achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Captain Lord Cochrane'S Frigate Pallas Leaving The Tagus Under Full Sail, The City of Lisbon Beyond And The Belem Tower Receding Astern in June 2006 with an auction result of GBP 102,000.00 (€ 147,592.30).
