Auction result misses estimated price range
In July this year a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait of William, later 1st Earl of Craven, as a boy, in Van Dyck costume by Thomas Beach for GBP 7,680.00 (€ 8,960.23). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master Paintings at Bonhams in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00 set by the auction house. Admittedly, works by Thomas Beach have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Four portraits of the children of William and Elizabeth Helyar: Joanna, aged 8; Harriet, aged 11; Edward, aged 18; and Bridget, aged 13 in December 2018 with an auction result of GBP 32,500.00 (€ 36,207.88).
