This artwork by Thomas Beach achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in April 2015. In the Old Master & British Paintings auction, the work Portrait of William Helyar (d.1820), three-quarter-length, in an embroidered blue waistcoat and coat, holding a design for the Georgian wing of Coker Court, standing before a column sold for GBP 20,000.00 (€ 27,464.61) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Thomas Beach; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Four portraits of the children of William and Elizabeth Helyar: Joanna, aged 8; Harriet, aged 11; Edward, aged 18; and Bridget, aged 13 sold at auction in December 2018 with the realized price of GBP 32,500.00 (€ 36,207.88).
