Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2016 Christies in London held the auction Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, Maritime Art, Sporting & Wildlife Art, which included the work H.M.S. Bellerophon leading the bombardment of the Syrian fortress of Acre on 3 November 1840 by Thomas Baines. The price achieved of GBP 10,000.00 (€ 11,691.62) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Baines achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Eastern Cataracts of the Victoria Falls in March 2021 with an auction result of GBP 574,750.00 (€ 675,183.19).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Dezember 2016 führte Christies in London die Auktion Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, Maritime Art, Sporting & Wildlife Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit H.M.S. Bellerophon leading the bombardment of the Syrian fortress of Acre on 3 November 1840 von Thomas Baines zur Versteigerung kam.
