Auction result misses estimated price range

When the work Chepstow Castle by James Bourne was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 250.00 – 350.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 152.75 (€ 249.57). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by James Bourne - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Steamship Teutonic, which sold at auction in November 2005 for GBP 480.00 (€ 705.18).
