This artwork by Steve Wheeler achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in October 2007. In the American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture auction, the work The Gold Cord sold for USD 73,000.00 (€ 50,456.18) - well above the upper estimate of USD 40,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Steve Wheeler; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Untitled, W22 (Man Looking at Pork Chop) sold at auction in May 2008 with the realized price of USD 109,000.00 (€ 70,051.41).
