Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Song Cao achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in September 2012. In the Fine Classical Chinese Paintings auction, the work Poem In Cursive Script sold for USD 80,500.00 (€ 62,616.68) - well above the upper estimate of USD 40,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Song Cao; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Poem In Cursive Script sold at auction in September 2012 with the realized price of USD 158,500.00 (€ 123,288.74).
