In December 2018 Christies in London held the auction British Art: Victorian, Pre Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, which included the work A Mower Whetting his Scythe by William Hamo Thornycroft. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 18,750.00 (€ 20,889.16), 25% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Hamo Thornycroft - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Teucer, which sold at auction in December 2014 for GBP 60,000.00 (€ 77,239.90).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 25 % übertroffen
Im Dezember 2018 führte Christies in London die Auktion British Art: Victorian, Pre Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit A Mower Whetting his Scythe von William Hamo Thornycroft zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 18.750,00 (€ 20.889,16) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von William Hamo Thornycroft mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Teucer beobachtet, die im Dezember 2014 für GBP 60.000,00 (€ 77.239,90) versteigert wurde.
