Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2002 Christies in London held the auction IMPORTANT PORTRAIT MINIATURES, GOLD BOXES & OBJECTS OF VERTU, which included the work A young gentleman, seated in a green upholstered chair with his left hand on his left knee, facing right in brown coat and grey trousers, blue waistcoat, white shirt and spotted blue bowtie, light brown hair and beard by William Charles Ross. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,673.00 (€ 2,619.94) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by William Charles Ross have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work [Victoria, Princess Royal (1840-1901) As A Child, Holding The Long Blue Silk Ribbons Of Her Hat, In White Dress, Black Coat, Wearing A Blue-Lined Straw Hat Adorned With Black And Blue Ribbons On Her Curly Fair Hair; Land
