In January last year Sothebys in New York held the auction Master Paintings Part II, which included the work Portrait of Thomas Dawson, 1st Viscount Cremorne, full length, with his hand resting on a table by Thomas Lawrence. The »bidding war« ended at USD 100,800.00 (€ 89,903.67), 68% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Lawrence achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Arthur Wellesley, 1St Duke of Wellington, K.G., K.B., M.P. (1769-1852), Bust-Length, In Civilian Clothes With A Military Cloak, Wearing The Insignia of The Order of The Golden Fleece in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 2,080,000.00 (€ 3,088,865.09).
(1769-1852), Bust-Length, In Civilian Clothes With A Military Cloak, Wearing The Insignia of The Order of The Golden Fleece im November 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 2.080.000,00 (€ 3.088.865,09).
