Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Caroline Upton, bust-length, in profile to the left by Thomas Lawrence was sold in the Old Master Paintings auction at Bonhams in London in July last year. The price achieved of GBP 5,100.00 (€ 6,090.31) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Lawrence achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Arthur Wellesley, 1St Duke of Wellington, K.G., K.B., M.P. (1769-1852), Bust-Length, In Civilian Clothes With A Military Cloak, Wearing The Insignia of The Order of The Golden Fleece in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 2,080,000.00 (€ 3,088,865.09).

Die Arbeit Portrait of Caroline Upton, bust-length, in profile to the left von Thomas Lawrence wurde im Juli letzten Jahres in der Auktion Old Master Paintings bei Bonhams in London versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 5.100,00 (€ 6.090,31) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 4.000,00 – 6.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Lawrence erzielen.
