Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Portrait of Charles Gardiner, 1st Earl of Blessington (1782-1829), full-length, in coronation robes, by a draped table and balustrade by Thomas Lawrence was sold in the Old Master Paintings and Sculpture: Part II auction at Christies in New York in January 2024. The »bidding war« ended at USD 98,280.00 (€ 85,894.07), 23% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Lawrence achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Arthur Wellesley, 1St Duke of Wellington, K.G., K.B., M.P. (1769-1852), Bust-Length, In Civilian Clothes With A Military Cloak, Wearing The Insignia of The Order of The Golden Fleece in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 2,080,000.00 (€ 3,088,865.09).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Die Arbeit Portrait of Charles Gardiner, 1st Earl of Blessington (1782-1829), full-length, in coronation robes, by a draped table and balustrade von Thomas Lawrence wurde im Januar 2024 in der Auktion Old Master Paintings and Sculpture: Part II bei Christies in New York versteigert. (1769-1852), Bust-Length, In Civilian Clothes With A Military Cloak, Wearing The Insignia of The Order of The Golden Fleece im November 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 2.080.000,00 (€ 3.088.865,09).
