Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In July 2021 Christies in London held the auction Old Masters Evening Sale, which included the work Portrait of Richard Meade, 3rd Earl of Clanwilliam (1795-1879), half-length, in a black cloak with red collar by Thomas Lawrence. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 598,500.00 (€ 701,865.35), 20% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Thomas Lawrence have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Arthur Wellesley, 1St Duke of Wellington, K.G., K.B., M.P. (1769-1852), Bust-Length, In Civilian Clothes With A Military Cloak, Wearing The Insignia of The Order of The Golden Fleece in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 2,080,000.00 (€ 3,088,865.09).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
