This artwork by Thomas Lawrence achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2018. In the Old Masters Evening Sale auction, the work Portrait of Lady Selina Meade (1797–1872), half-length, in an ivory satin dress, with the spire of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna, beyond sold for GBP 2,288,750.00 (€ 2,549,870.48) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Thomas Lawrence; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of Arthur Wellesley, 1St Duke of Wellington, K.G., K.B., M.P. (1769-1852), Bust-Length, In Civilian Clothes With A Military Cloak, Wearing The Insignia of The Order of The Golden Fleece sold at auction in November 2006 with the realized price of GBP 2,080,000.00 (€ 3,088,865.09).
