Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of a lady, traditionally identified as Mrs Bevan, half-length, in a black dress by Thomas Lawrence was auctioned at Christies in London in June 2020. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 7,000.00 – 10,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 7,500.00 (€ 8,259.95) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Lawrence achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Arthur Wellesley, 1St Duke of Wellington, K.G., K.B., M.P. (1769-1852), Bust-Length, In Civilian Clothes With A Military Cloak, Wearing The Insignia of The Order of The Golden Fleece in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 2,080,000.00 (€ 3,088,865.09).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Portrait of a lady, traditionally identified as Mrs Bevan, half-length, in a black dress von Thomas Lawrence kam im Juni 2020 bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 7.000,00 – 10.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 7.500,00 (€ 8.259,95) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Lawrence erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Arthur Wellesley, 1St Duke of Wellington, K.G., K.B., M.P.
