Auction result misses estimated price range
In September 2002 a collector was able to acquire the work Shipping off Spithead by Oswald Joseph Hornby Birley for GBP 293.75 (€ 466.84). This price was achieved in the auction BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL WATERCOLOURS AND DRAWINGS at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 300.00 – 500.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Oswald Joseph Hornby Birley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Mark Birley (1930-2007), as a boy in November 2018 with an auction result of GBP 32,500.00 (€ 36,659.01).
