Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Oswald Joseph Hornby Birley could be acquired at Christies in London in May 2005 for an unexpectedly low price. In the THE ROYAL & SUNALLIANCE COLLECTION auction, the work Portrait of Ralph Y. Sketch, seated at a desk changed hands for GBP 60.00 (€ 88.58) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 400.00 – 600.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Oswald Joseph Hornby Birley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Mark Birley (1930-2007), as a boy in November 2018 with an auction result of GBP 32,500.00 (€ 36,659.01).
