This artwork by Leslie Matthew Ward achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2005. In the JOHN FRANKS COLL. OF ORIGINAL WATERCOLOURS FOR VANITY FAIR auction, the work Gladstone and Harcourt, 'Babble and Bluster' Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer sold for GBP 10,800.00 (€ 15,675.60) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Leslie Matthew Ward; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Earl of Darnley, 'Ivo' Cricketer sold at auction in December 2005 with the realized price of GBP 18,000.00 (€ 26,125.99).
