Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2012 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait Of The Duchess Of Newcastle by Godfrey Kneller for USD 4,375.00 (€ 3,351.72). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master & 19th Century European Art, Including Property from The Forbes Collection: The Panorama of Champigny at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 5,000.00 – 7,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Godfrey Kneller achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Elizabeth, Duchess of Dorset, Full-Length, In A White Dress With A Blue Wrap, Leaning On A Stone Pedestal With Her Left Hand, Beside A Draped Curtain in April 2008 with an auction result of GBP 50,900.00 (€ 64,890.31).
