This artwork by Godfrey Kneller achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2012. In the Old Masters & British Paintings auction, the work Portrait of a lady, traditionally identified as Catherine Perceval (c.1689-1749), Countess of Egmont, bust-length, in a blue dress and brown wrap, in a feigned oval sold for GBP 8,750.00 (€ 10,902.12) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by Godfrey Kneller have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Elizabeth, Duchess of Dorset, Full-Length, In A White Dress With A Blue Wrap, Leaning On A Stone Pedestal With Her Left Hand, Beside A Draped Curtain in April 2008 with an auction result of GBP 50,900.00 (€ 64,890.31).
