Sold at the lower estimate price
In July 2020 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours, which included the work Study for 'Alpine mastiffs reanimating a distressed traveller' by Edwin Henry Landseer. The result of GBP 4,000.00 (€ 4,461.70) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edwin Henry Landseer achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'Scene in Chillingham Park: Portrait of Lord Ossulston', or 'Death of the Wild Bull' in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 1,271,650.00 (€ 1,856,568.89).
