This artwork by Edward John Poynter achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2018. In the Old Masters/New Scholars: Works of Art Sold to Benefit Rugby School auction, the work Perseus and Andromeda sold for GBP 332,750.00 (€ 370,713.01) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 180,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Edward John Poynter; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Orpheus and Eurydice sold at auction in December 2020 with the realized price of GBP 437,500.00 (€ 488,726.49).
