Despite a disappointment, a good price for Shunkosai Hokushu
In May 2021 a collector was able to acquire the work Actors viewing cherry blossoms by Shunkosai Hokushu for GBP 1,890.00 (€ 2,199.06). This price was achieved in the auction Japanese Woodblock Prints | Including the Sokolov Collection at Sothebys in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00 set by the auction house. Despite this disappointing result, Actors viewing cherry blossoms is the most expensive artwork by Shunkosai Hokushu that we have observed at auction so far.
