The work Nihon -- Japan. Tokyo: Shaken, 1967. by Shomei Tomatsu was sold in the Photobooks auction at Christies in London in May 2010. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,125.00 (€ 1,318.09), 41% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Shomei Tomatsu achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Untitled (series 'Chewing Gum and Chocolate, Yokosuka'), 1958 in November last year with an auction result of EUR 37,800.00.
