This artwork by Shomei Tomatsu achieved an unexpectedly high price at Phillips in New York in October 2018. In the A Constant Pursuit: Photographs from the Collection of Ed Cohen & Victoria Shaw auction, the work Hibakusha Shimotani Tomitaro, Nagasaki from Nagasaki 11:02 sold for USD 18,750.00 (€ 16,546.06) - well above the upper estimate of USD 9,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Shomei Tomatsu - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Untitled (series 'Chewing Gum and Chocolate, Yokosuka'), 1958, which sold at auction in November last year for EUR 37,800.00.
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Shomei Tomatsu erzielte im Oktober 2018 bei Phillips in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion A Constant Pursuit: Photographs from the Collection of Ed Cohen & Victoria Shaw wurde die Arbeit Hibakusha Shimotani Tomitaro, Nagasaki from Nagasaki 11:02 für USD 18.750,00 (€ 16.546,06) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 9.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Shomei Tomatsu mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Untitled (series 'Chewing Gum and Chocolate, Yokosuka'), 1958 beobachtet, die im November letzten Jahres für EUR 37.800,00 versteigert wurde.
