The tall, square vase with sides widening from the base towards the shoulder, decorated overall in a reddish-brown glaze, the sides with impressed rope pattern and spot design which has been inlaid overall in white slip, parts inlaid in blue and pink glazes forming wavy lines, the base with impressed artist's mark 'Ta' in katakana; in fitted wood storage box (tomobako) signed and sealed Tatsuzo, and titled Jigusuri Jomon zogan marumon hoko (Square vase with slip-inlaid impressed rope pattern and

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Square Stoneware Vase with Rope-impressed and Inlaid Design by Shimaoka Tatsuzo was sold in the Art of Japan: Online auction at Christies in London in December 2019. The price achieved of GBP 1,500.00 (€ 1,772.82) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Shimaoka Tatsuzo - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Rice-husk ash and copper-green-glazed square stoneware dish, which sold at auction in March 2001 for USD 4,935.00 (€ 5,611.78).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit A Square Stoneware Vase with Rope-impressed and Inlaid Design von Shimaoka Tatsuzo wurde im Dezember 2019 in der Auktion Art of Japan: Online bei Christies in London versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 1.500,00 (€ 1.772,82) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 1.200,00 – 1.800,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Shimaoka Tatsuzo mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Rice-husk ash and copper-green-glazed square stoneware dish beobachtet, die im März 2001 für USD 4.935,00 (€ 5.611,78) versteigert wurde.
