Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Large Dish by Shimaoka Tatsuzo was auctioned at Sothebys in London in November 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 875.00 (€ 1,027.46). Admittedly, works by Shimaoka Tatsuzo have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Rice-husk ash and copper-green-glazed square stoneware dish in March 2001 with an auction result of USD 4,935.00 (€ 5,611.78).
