Estate of Murray Hoffman, Woodstock (acquired directly from the artist) | Acquired from the above by the present owner in the 1970s | Two Figures Reclining is most likely a scene from George Gershwin's opera Porgy and Bess. Soudeikine painted the set designs for the first production of the opera in Boston in 1935. Farmhouse depicts the place where Soudeikine resided while staying in Woodstock, New York.

Admittedly, works by Sergei Soudeikine have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Russian Oriental Scene, Circa 1923 in April 2008 with an auction result of USD 241,000.00 (€ 154,804.73).
